The Isobel Dress

This dress has been a long time coming…

I began designing her and the end of summer last year. I started off with a zero waste concept for this dress.

From No to Low 

However after wanting to perfect the fit and construction of this dress it is now a LOW waste dress. With very minimal scraps created when I cut the dress out and sometimes they are used to create the pockets for the next dress. 

I've made a few tweaks along the way.

This dress is now in its 4th iteration. 

Drafting Makes Perfect

1st sample was too long in the body and the ties were too long, there wasn’t enough gather at the sides and I only included one pocket.

2nd sample I raised the waist line, fixed the tie lengths and simplified the pattern for construction.

3rd sample I pulled in the body pleat as it was making me feel quite broad and I wanted a slimmer front - this also meant that the ties moved towards each other so there is more flexibility when tying the sides together.

4th and final sample just had a small neck adjustment and a slightly bigger pocket added into the side seam.

It’s taken me over two years to design a completely new dress. I wanted it to be just right and complement the styles I already have in my collection.
